Promoting Watercolor and Watermedia Painting on the Virginia Peninsula
CHECK US OUT ON FACEBOOK (Search for Peninsula Watermedia Society)
AS OF FEBRUARY, 2022 WE WILL NOW BE MEETING AT
THE MARY M. TORGGLER FINE ARTS CENTER
1 Avenue of the Arts, Newport News, VA 23606, (757) 594-0800,
https://thetorggler.org/
The meeting will still be the FOURTH Sunday of the month, from 2:30-4:30pm (unless otherwise notified).
IN THE EVENT THERE IS A CONFLICT WITH THE TORGGLER (UNLIKELY, BUT POSSIBLE) WE CAN STILL MEET ON ZOOM
email us at: pwcs.virginia@gmail.com Or use our: contact form

Getting to the parking lot for the Torggler is a bit convoluted. You will enter onto Avenue of the Arts from Warwick Blvd. Follow the road around, past a small traffic circle of sorts, stay straight. You will pass the POPE CHAPEL on your right (#24) and Saunders Plaza(#30). Directly ahead of you will be the Paul Trible Library(#31)
TURN RIGHT and continue down until you see the parking lot on your left (B)/(C1).
You should be able to find a space there. It's a larger lot.
Walk across the street to the TORGGLER, enter and look around. Look UP too!

MAY's PWS MEETING AT THE TORGGLER AT 2:30pm to 4:30pm
MEERA (one of our members) will be doing a demonstration on Artistic JOURNALING. Meera has presented before and has always given a fabulous demonstration of how she journals. This is one not to be missed. We will also try to ZOOM the meeting for those unable to attend. Bandwidth may be an issue, but we will at least try. The contact information for ZOOM (ID and Password) are contained in the reminder email that went out today (Saturday). It will not be posted here.
I have some positive news about our MEMBER EXHIBITION at the Stryker Gallery in Williamsburg.
Hope to see you there.
As always, the meetings at the Torggler are free and open to anyone interested in watermedia, or water based artistic creations.

Works by Degas in this exhibition consist of drawings, prints, photographs, monotypes, one sculpture, and a letter, all from a single private collection. The collection endeavors to illuminate the background and personality of Edgar Degas the man, as well as to present his genius as an artist. The subject matter of these works by Degas is often quite personal. In addition to three rare self-portraits, the collection includes depictions of close family members, his loyal housekeeper Sabine Neyt, and multiple portraits of artists Édouard Manet and Mary Cassatt.
Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist highlights the artist’s interests and individual methods of creating through experimentation and touches upon notable themes of Degas’ oeuvre such as anatomy, horse racing, and ballet. Although often aloof to strangers, Degas shared warmth and loyalty with his family as well as with a wide circle of friends, which included some of the greatest writers and artists of the epoch. Works by Degas’ circle in this exhibition include Mary Cassatt, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Cézanne, Édouard Manet, Camille Pissarro, and Edweard Muybridge, among others.
Upcoming special programming, through the series Muscarelle Explorations, will focus on Degas and include lectures, a film, a book club discussion, and a concert of period music to further explore the cultural life of the artist and his peers. In addition, a sequence of live drawing workshops in the galleries will give participants a special view of the exhibition and provide a deeper understanding of Degas’ methods and techniques. Dates, times, and registration information is now available through the Explorations page at Muscarelle.org!
